The goal of the HCSRN-OAICs AGING (“Advancing Geriatrics Infrastructure & Network Growth”) Initiative is to bridge the Health Care Systems Research Network (HCSRN) with the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Centers (OAIC) to create a national resource to nurture and advance an interdisciplinary research agenda focused on older adults with multiple chronic conditions (MCCs). These efforts will lay the foundation to address the knowledge gaps that exist regarding the health and healthcare of these understudied patients.
Under the current R33 grant, the HCSRN-OAIC AGING Initiative will take the next the developing a sustainable infrastructure to advance the science of MCCs with the aims of:
Expand on and develop innovative methods related to measurement and analytics, observational research, and pragmatic clinical trial design and implementation, to inform novel interventions
Foster the career development and success of early stage investigators, and create a nation-wide cohort of MCCs Scholars, who establish productive collaborations early in their careers to catalyze an expansion of interdisciplinary research
Promote patient-centered research by engaging patients and informal caregivers in the identification of research priorities and at all stages of the research process
Fund a series of pilot awards that will advance the research priorities of the R33 relevant to advancing the science of MCCs
